President* -
- comes to regularly scheduled weekly meetings
- oversees Executive Board and sub-committees
- responsible for setting an agenda for each scheduled meeting and presiding over meetings
- serving as a liaison to the greater campus and Blacksburg community. (Attends Lay board meetings and some BJCC meetings in the capacity of liaison to community).
VP of Religion** -
- comes to regularly scheduled weekly meetings
- oversees committee of Shabbat Chair and Holiday Chair
- implements opportunities for Jewish and religious learning with a semester outline and plan
- arranges with his/her chairs who will lead Shabbat and Holiday services and ceremonies
- develops and implements religious related programs at least twice each semester
Shabbat Chair -
- comes to at least two meetings each month
- makes the necessary arrangements for a successful Shabbat, including coordinating dinners on scheduled Shabbats or reception on Shabbats that do not have a dinner scheduled,
- ensuring that bread, wine and candles are available at all Shabbats
- deciding with the VP of Religion who will lead services
- implements a themed or creative Shabbat at least once a month
Holiday Chair -
- comes to at least two meetings each month
- coordinates programs and services related to Jewish holidays
- works with the VP of Religion to decide who will lead religious services and ceremonies
VP of Tzedek** -
- comes to at regularly scheduled weekly meetings
- oversees committee of Mazon Chair and Social Justice Chair
- develops programming and projects related to social justice at least twice a semester
Mazon Chair -
- comes to at least two meetings each month
- responsible for programming and social action initiatives related to ending hunger locally, nationally and globally
Social Justice Chair -
- comes to at least two meetings each month
- responsible for philanthropic initiatives
- making arrangements for an Alternative Spring Break
- working with Hillel and other organizations on events and special projects related to social justice
VP of Programming** -
- comes to regularly scheduled weekly meetings
- oversees committee of F.Y.S.H. Chair, Arts and Culture Chair, Social Chair and Special Event Chairs
- takes over responsibilities of President if necessary
- formats a semester or yearly programming outline highlighting how programs relate and expand
- takes the necessary steps to ensure successful programming by self and committee
- develops and implements programming initiatives on campus at least twice each semester
F.Y.S.H. (First Year Students of Hillel) Chair -
- comes to at least two meetings each month
- coordinates and plans events that target to Freshmen and Transfer students to introduce them to and involve them in Hillel with a minimum of three events per semester
Arts and Culture Chair -
- comes to at least two meetings each month,
- coordinates and plans events related to Arts and Culture with a minimum of three events per semester
- may work with Special Events Chairs on large-scale events (i.e. Daniel Pearl Music Day, Jewish Cinema South, etc.)
Social Chair -
- comes to two meetings each month
- coordinates and plans social, secular events with a minimum of three events per semester
Special Events Chairs (2) -
- comes to at least two meetings each month
- responsible for large-scale Hillel events (i.e. Daniel Pearl Music Day, Jewish Awareness Month, etc.)
VP of Finance** -
- comes to regularly scheduled weekly meetings
- oversees the role of Grant Chair
- prepares budget with board and committee members
- responsible for keeping financial records including maintaining receipts and regulating spending by the organization
- helps prepare SGA Budget Board request and is a representative for allocation at hearing
- develops an annual budget and requests money from the University (SGA) for programs in a timely and effective manner (works closely with Elaine Quesenberry, SGA accountant)
- prepares necessary funding for programs and Shabbat
Grant Chair -
- comes to at least two meetings each month
- responsible for applying for grants to Hillel events in a timely and effective manner
- oversees and coordinates SGA Budget Board request for allocation and presentation
VP of Administrative Affairs** -
- comes to regularly scheduled weekly meetings
- oversees committee consisting of Public Relations Chair, Historian, Webmaster and Newsletter Editor
- maintains records of meetings and communicates with Hillel members through e-mail and other available resources in regards to upcoming events
- Takes attendance at all events or makes sure someone is in charge of taking attendance
Public Relations Chair -
- comes to at least two meetings each month
- responsible for publicity of events through flyers, press releases to local newspapers, chops and website listings
Historian -
- comes to at least one meeting each month
- maintains records of events by taking photographs
- uploading the photographs to the Hillel website and recording attendance or by being responsible for making sure that these tasks are done by others.
Webmaster -
- comes to at least one meeting each month
- maintains and updates Hillel website as necessary.
Newsletter Editor -
- comes to at least one meeting each month
- coordinate newsletter by assigning articles to students and following up that the assigned articles are written
- puts together the newsletter with photographs and articles.
Members at Large (2) -
- comes to regularly scheduled weekly meetings
- Assists the Executive Board in successfully completely necessary tasks to ensure success of the organization.
SGA Representative and Liaison -
- comes to at least one meeting each month
- serves as a liaison to the SGA by keeping Hillel up to date on progress
- events and opportunities for co-sponsorship and relaying Hillel?s progress events and opportunities for co-sponsorship to his/her respective organization.
Hokies for Israel Liaison -
- comes to at least one meeting each month
- serves as a liaison to the Hokies for Israel by keeping Hillel up to date on progress, events and
opportunities for co-sponsorship and relaying Hillel's progress events and opportunities for co-
sponsorship to his/her respective organization
J-GAP (Jewish Graduate and Professional) Liaison -
- comes to at least one meeting each month
- serves as a liaison to the J-GAP organization by keeping Hillel up to date on progress, events and
opportunities for co-sponsorship and relaying Hillel's progress, events and opportunities for co-
sponsorship to his/her respective organization.
SAEPi Liaison*** -
- comes to regularly scheduled meetings each month
- serves as a liaison to Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi by keeping Hillel up to date on progress, events and
opportunities for co-sponsorship and relaying Hillel's progress, events and opportunities for co-
sponsorship to his/her respective organization.
AEPi Liaison*** -
- comes to regularly scheduled meetings each month
- serves as a liaison to Alpha Epsilon Pi by keeping Hillel up to date on progress, events and opportunities for co-sponsorship and relaying Hillel's progress, events and opportunities for co-sponsorship to his/her respective organization.
* The President is responsible for ensuring that the Executive Board Members are completing tasks in a timely and satisfactory manner. The President is responsible for completing tasks that are not otherwise being completed in a timely and satisfactory manner by the Executive Board.
** Vice-Presidents are responsible for ensuring that their Committee Members are completing tasks in a timely and satisfactory manner. The Vice-Presidents are responsible for completing tasks that are not otherwise being completed in a timely and satisfactory manner by their respective Committee Members.
*** These Liasons do not need to be affiliated with their respected groups. These Liasons simply would need to work with the group's assigned representative to Hillel to be able to coordinate activities and events between the two.
